Nebraska Recreation & Park Association 2024 Scholarships

The Nebraska Recreation & Park Association administers three (3) scholarships. These include:

Joseph A. Churchich Scholarship

Ruth B. McClintock Scholarship
NeRPA Rose Hanzlicek Scholarship

The Joseph A Churchich Scholarship recognizes the lifelong work of Joseph A Churchich in parks and recreation for the City of Omaha, where he served for forty years. It is awarded to individuals majoring in recreation, parks, horticulture, or conservation with the intent to pursue a career in the recreation, park, or leisure fields. Full-time employees working in the recreation, parks, leisure, horticulture, or conservation field, who are registered for a credit course in the areas of recreation, parks, leisure, horticulture, or conservation at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Lincoln, or Kearney may also apply. Employees must be a member of the Nebraska Recreation & Park Association. Maximum Annual Award: $1400. Funds are managed by the University of Nebraska Foundation.

Ruth B. McClintock Memorial Scholarship was established by Ralph McClintock, the Superintendent of Parks in Omaha for many years. One of the founding fathers of NeRPA, he established the Ruth McClintock Scholarship as a memorial to his spouse Ruth. It is awarded to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at the University of Nebraska (Omaha/Lincoln/Kearney) who are majoring in recreation, parks, leisure services, or conservation with the intent to enter the parks and recreation field as a career. Funds may be applied as scholarship or student internship stipends. Applicants must hold Junior, Senior, or Graduate student status and enrolled as a full-time student. Applicants must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.7 on 4.0 scale at time of application. Preference may be given to applicants who are members of the Nebraska Recreation & Park Association. Maximum Award: $3400. **Funds are managed by the University of Nebraska Foundation.

The Nebraska Recreation & Park Association Rose Hanzlicek Scholarship recognizes the lifelong work of Rose Hanzlicek in therapeutic recreation with the Lincoln Regional Center and beyond. It is open to individuals seeking Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) Certification through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Preference will be given to Nebraska residents or individuals completing their internship in Nebraska. Scholarship funds can be used for tuition towards professional content coursework in Recreation Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation for expenses related to the completion of the professional internship and/or expenses related to NCTRC Exam. Maximum Annual Award: $2000. **Funds are managed by Nebraska Recreation & Park Association.
